EContra One-Step® is a progestin-only emergency contraceptive, that helps prevent pregnancy after regular birth control failure or unprotected sex when taken as directed. Emergency contraceptives, such as EContra are sometimes called “the morning-after pill”. EContra along with other emergency contraceptives such as Plan B One-Step®1, My Way®2, and My Choice®3 contain 1.5 mg of levonorgestrel. EContra is FDA approved for use up to 3 days (up to 72 hours) after unprotected sex or known birth control failure. The sooner you take emergency contraception, the better it works. EContra is available over the counter and online without a prescription.
When taken as directed, EContra One-Step can significantly reduce the chance of pregnancy. In fact, it’s estimated that about 7 out of 8 women who would have become pregnant won’t get pregnant if they use EContra One-Step® as directed. EContra One-Step works by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary. EContra One-Step is intended as a backup method of contraception and should not be used as a regular form of birth control.
